Why do we create lesson plans? They seem like such a hassle to complete.
We use lesson plans to guide us in instruction and to set goals as to what we want students to achieve in the end of the lesson plan. Writing these lesson plans effectively is a strategy one must possess. Here are some tips as to what a lesson plan should have:
- Objectives for student learning
- Teaching/learning activities
- Strategies to check student understandingThis website provides more strategies for effective lesson planning: http://www.crlt.umich.edu/gsis/P2_5.phpWhen creating a lesson plan one must remember that the lesson plan should be easily replicated by someone else. This website has a lesson plan maker: http://www.teach-nology.com/web_tools/lesson_plan/

Thanks for your brief insight into lesson planning. Maybe you can give more information about this whole subject? State the struggles mostly found when creating lesson plans and what we could do to overcome those struggles.
ReplyDeleteI really like the first link you provided. I think reflection of lesson planning is the most important. Teachers often don't have time to do this after a lesson but it would help planning go much smoother when we understand why something didn't work.
Hi, Erika,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links. Lesson planning is something we had to get very detailed about at my school and we got to where we were team planning lessons done on the computer. We usually used Excel. Granted, it's probably not the best but we knew how to use it and we were able to add a lot of detailed information that way, including essential questions, times, materials needed, special accommodations, ESL standards, etc etc etc!! Doing our lessons plans this way made it easier to tweak and update year to year as opposed to reinventing the wheel every fall (and you know there's no time for that!).
With all we are learning about technology, reading your post got me curious about a few things. The link to the online lesson plan maker made me think it would be interesting to see what types of other technology are out there for lesson plans. I bet there are tons of free and paid services!
