Digital Storytelling

Technology has opened a new way for teachers to read and tell stories to students. No more paper books, no more ways to think how to get students interested and involved. Digital storytelling is the new way how to read to students. Digital storytelling is the modern expression of the ancient art of storytelling. Digital stories derive their power by weaving images, music, narrative and voice together, thereby giving deep dimension and vivid color to characters, situations, experiences, and insights says Leslie Rule.

There are many benefits of using digital storytelling in the classroom. One is it benefits visual learners as well as English Language Learners since they are viewing the story. " Children have an innate love of stories. Stories create magic and a sense of wonder at the world. Stories teach us about life, about ourselves and about others. Storytelling is a unique way for students to develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures, and can promote a positive attitude to people from different lands, races and religions." 1. Erika,

I like how you mentioned that storytelling would be a benefit to visual learners and ELL students. Though we know that all children enjoy and learn from stories these kids can really reap the rewards as they will be able to grasp what's being taught where they might not have before.

I also found myself nodding when you called digital storytelling the modern form of an ancient art. It's so true! We see the evidence of this in what's been left behind by past cultures and tribes and it's very evident in the bible too as history was recorded and lessons taught with story.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Lydia

    1. Thnaks Lydia. I am one of those that learn by seeing things rather than by being told.

  2. Great point on ELL students. A great plus for using digtical technology in the class is that it incorporates a lot of different learning style formats. It like the Walmart of learning tools. It has and offers something for everyone to use and learning a subject matter from.
